Russia may launch first ever exports of sugar in 2016
MOSCOW, Oct 13 (PRIME) -- Russia will have a surplus of sugar of about one million tonnes in 2016 allowing it to export the product for the first time ever, Vadim Moshkovich, co-owner of agricultural holding Rusagro, said Thursday during a Russia Calling! investment conference.
“This year exports of sugar to the world markets will happen for the first time in the Russian history, I think. Russia will not only satisfy its internal demand, but I expect it to have an about one million tonne surplus in production of sugar,” he said.
Moshkovich said that import substitution has been implemented in some sectors ahead of schedule. “The country satisfies its needs in production of poultry and pork. There are some issues with beef, but the sector is also showing growth,” he said.
